ALL’S FAIR: KIM KARDASHIAN AND THE TRIUMPH OF POP CULTURE OVER PARAGRAPHED LAW

What a time to be alive. Not long ago, legal dramas were centered around characters like Alicia Florrick or Harvey Specter – cold-blooded masters of codes and paragraphs, clad in Louboutins or Italian leather. Today? Today, the center of legal narratives is taken over by… Kim Kardashian. Because why not?

The streaming platform Hulu, known for occasionally releasing something worth watching (and sometimes not), has dropped the trailer for the new series “All’s Fair”, in which a group of ambitious women tries to break through the glass ceilings in the male-dominated world of law. And there she is – Kim. Not playing herself as she has for the last two decades, but as a full-fledged (whatever that means) heroine of a dramatic series.

And let’s not forget the rest of the cast, which seems like it was carefully assembled to showcase a diverse, yet oddly perfect collection of personalities. There’s the overachieving perfectionist, the underdog with a mysterious past, the sharp-tongued careerist, and, of course, the ever-suffering but ever-resilient “token feminist” who’s constantly fighting for her place at the table. It’s the kind of mix that makes you want to reach for your popcorn – or perhaps just your phone, to check if the actors actually know what the word “courtroom” means.

And if you’re worried that Kim might not be able to carry the weight of this production, perhaps the rest of the cast will manage it. After all, “All’s Fair” features names that speak for themselves. Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash-Betts, and Teyana Taylor – a team that, if nothing else, will surely bring some much-needed class to the series. Maybe they’ll be the ones to pull this show out of the shadows of pop culture experiments and give it a bit more gravitas… although, given the entire surrounding context, there’s no guarantee that they’ll do so without a few spectacular missteps.

Don’t get me wrong – Kim did actually study law. With determination worthy of a better-scripted reality show, she’s inching closer to her goal of obtaining a law license. But is that a good enough reason to give her the lead role in a series about female empowerment in the legal world? Probably, if we’re living in an age where TikTok decides literary awards.

The trailer shows smooth shots, perfectly tailored suits, and dialogue that pretends to be written by someone who’s actually been in a courtroom, rather than someone who just binge-watched “Suits.” There’s drama, glam, female solidarity, and that kind of sassy energy that says, “We know this is absurd, but let’s make it stylish.”

Will “All’s Fair” be the next legal gem? Well, if your benchmark for quality is the number of followers the cast has, it’s guaranteed to be a world-class hit. But if you’re dreaming of a solid plot with emotional weight greater than the one carried by picking the perfect Instagram filter – it might be a different story.

Of course, amid all this glamour, there’s some shadow of a “mission” – women fighting for their place in a patriarchal legal system. The only difference is that this fight happens under perfect lighting, with an espresso martini in hand and an office boasting a view of Los Angeles that “Vogue” would envy.

Because, of course, feminism can also be monetized – especially when it’s worn in the form of a gold necklace and comes with a skincare line.

But let’s not be too cynical – it’s just a show. In a world where reality TV often feels more “real” than the nightly news, Kim as a lawyer is no longer surprising. It’s a logical consequence of cultural evolution. Or, if you prefer, a gentle erosion of it.

“All’s Fair”? Fair enough. In love, war, and television – everything is allowed. Even Kim Kardashian in a robe.
