YOHJI YAMAMOTO SS26: A SHIP FOR STORYTELLING

Yesterday evening, Japanese design maestro Yohji Yamamoto transformed the historic Hôtel de Ville in Paris into a space where fashion becomes storytelling. His Spring/Summer 2026 show was not just a presentation of garments  it was an artistic performance where every detail mattered, and fabrics seemed to narrate their own stories. Yamamoto moved at a deliberate pace, allowing the audience to absorb every gesture, fold, and line of the silhouettes, turning the prêt-à-porter runway into an almost theatrical experience.

The collection, comprising 47 looks, showcased Yamamoto’s signature mastery over fabric and form. The opening was dominated by black dresses adorned with white graffiti minimalist yet striking canvases that turned the body into a storytelling medium. Following these, fringe and distressed pieces made their appearance, then more complex constructions twisted and intertwined fabrics revealed different facets with every movement, creating dynamic, almost sculptural compositions.

At the heart of the collection were three colored plaid pieces geometric yet softly draping over the models’ bodies, paired with long, frozen-in-time cylindrical hairpieces. In a poignant gesture, Yamamoto paid tribute to the late Giorgio Armani: selected garments were embellished with magazine clippings or sentimental inscriptions, highlighting Armani’s enduring influence on his own career. It was a subtle yet powerful nod to the legacy of one of fashion’s greatest figures.

The show concluded with a burst of crimson. Five intensely red looks, composed of flowing tulle dresses and structured coats, cut through the earlier darker palette, serving as a vivid, symbolic punctuation to the collection. Once again, Yamamoto proved that his fashion is not just clothing it is narrative, emotion, and art intertwined, executed with the precision and control only he can command.
